Primary Progresive MS

Primary progressive MS (PPMS) – Neurological functions worsen even further and difference between relapse and remission is hardly distinguishable. Multiple Sclerosis symptoms are present at all times, so patients often have problems with walking and general everyday activities. Progression of the disease during this time is continuous, although temporary improvements can often be seen. These patients may require assistance on daily basis.

Primary progressive ms stories

The primary progressive subtype occurs in approximately 10–20% of individuals, with no remission after the initial symptoms. It is characterized by progression of disability from onset, with no, or only occasional and minor, remissions and improvements. The usual age of onset for the primary progressive subtype is later than of the relapsing remitting ms subtype. It is similar to the age that secondary progressive ms usually begins in relapsing-remitting MS, around 40 years of age.
